The Status and Socioeconomic Rights Programme aims at securing the improved access to status rights (rights to birth registration, citizenship and residence) and socioeconomic rights (rights to health care, social protection, education, employment and adequate housing). Within this Programme, Praxis provides free legal aid, information and counselling to marginalized groups, primarily Roma, Askalia, Egyptians and internally displaced persons. Free legal aid encompasses representation in various administrative and court procedures related to birth and subsequent birth registration, determination of and admission into the citizenship and registration of permanent residence, as well as representation, information and counseling related to the exercise of socioeconomic rights. Through legal mobile teams’ field visits, we reach the most marginalized individuals who live in informal settlements and remote areas throughout Serbia. In addition, the Programme is focused on continuous monitoring of the implementation of relevant legislation, research, advocacy for legislative changes and for the harmonization of practice by the competent bodies, raising awareness of the target groups and performing capacity building activities directed at public authorities and CSOs.
